Potassium hydroxide, also known as caustic potash, is an inorganic compound with the formula KOH. It forms colorless crystals and is highly hygroscopic. It is a strong base. Its aqueous solution is commercially available as a household cleaner, marketed under the name “cold degreaser.” It is used in various industrial applications, in laboratories as a chemical reagent, as an electrolyte in alkaline batteries, and for the production of potassium soap and other potassium compounds.
